First off, I’m in heaven. With the recent vometerium of newly bland product ‘refreshments’ (word pun intentional), I am completely overjoyed to see that my absolute obsession has finally gotten the design attention it deserves, by none other than my other obsession, Pentagram(Read More)

A great firm, with great projects. Hilarious menu videos.

Clearification may be my favorite; As much as I’d hate to promote Windows, the Vista campaign (with episodes starring comedian Demetri Martin) is quite entertaining. If Microsoft’s goal was to attract us young, doodling, sarcastic, dry-humored youngens, well you’ve got my attention ( but sorry- not my money!) Regardless, I’m grateful to have them give their money for this firm to have some fun…

My experience in Dessau, Germany is vastly complicated… and I will have time to get into that later on… But all in all, it might easily be summed up if you were to peruse through a set of confusing but intriguing German links such as [these] listed in the second section. Some are also linked above. It’s what I do with a lot of my spare time… it’s a nice break to throw myself back into that experience of just absorbing another student’s work without any detailed understanding of what they are doing, but taking from it just visual interpretation and technique. The Bauhaus was a great place to be in love with design… or to fall deeper in love with it. If anything, the connections I got from it blog-wise are a nice way for me to get that pang of worldliness; get myself out of America a little bit and plant myself acouple thousand miles away and in the head of some german blogger’s post on latex balloon people, or inside the paper plate exhibition from a design event in Berlin… etcetera etcetera…
(scroll over pics for description! whee! Oh, and be forewarned that some sites don’t have an English option. I got most of them through my german friend, [Janine]).

By several bizarre circumstances, I wind up at a house in LA that just so happens to be my dream house; Not the outside, but the inside. It was truely a designer’s paradise… from the stellar uniqueness of intensely well-executed pieces of art, to the miles of design books, to the Real Panton chairs, to the hilarious and still-matching elements tying the colors together… it was my favorite spot in LA. Not to mention that this designerly atmosphere came with Eli and friends’ neverending wit and sarcastic banter. And the soundtrack to this weekend… A set of phenomenal mixes coming from a high-end sound system that made you feel like you were inside a space ship, in the year 2489. That of course all made sense when I learned he was a DJ.

top left to bottom right: one of many screenprinted paintings; deliciously bizarre artwork in the eating area; the panton chairs he had (which, due to corrupt files, I don’t have a good picture of… along with a shot of the whole scene- so apologies there!); museum bowl; helmet=tv with accompanied screenprint and clock; refrigerator; pillows in the living room; floor of living room; robot that protects the design books (note nifty bookends); sweet arcade; 24 x 30 print of an old family photo (Eli with guitar); magazine rack with McGinness board, polaroid camera, and other nifties. Lost pictures: whole room, sound system, speak-and-spell, old school nintendo, and amillion other cool things.
